I was telling dad about this new class i'm taking up at work for exercise. It's a spinning class or some gyms call it cycling too. Most people who don't know what spinning know it's on a bike but they assume it's like your recumbent bike you see in the gym. Oh no, it's a more fancy bike. I had always seen them advertised on tv, but no gym i was ever at had them. Spinning bikes are very expensive so your smaller gyms usually can't afford to have them. Plus, you have a teacher that is certified to teach spinning. My first day of spinning was last week, the class is from 8:30-9:30am. I normally hate working out in the morning and don't do, but due to work it's the only time i can do it. So me and this other girl trainer take it together. Here i am thinking, i run i work out, this class won't kill me. Was i ever wrong! I haven't felt that type of burning in my legs in awhile. My legs weren't sore after the class, but i just had to walk slow cuz my legs were so exhausted, and my butt hurt from seat for few days. the teacher told me i get used to once i keep taking the class. I was sitting next to this man who's in 60's that was out spinning me. I couldn't believe it! The teacher will have us a warm up, using no resistance, then to turn up the intensity you turn this nob right above where you'd put a bottle of water. I look over see this old man cranking up that resistance knob, i say myself "what! i don't think so, i can't have him out doing me" so i crank mine up. obviously my little legs were getting tired quickly, so i look at him and he he's not even struggling. He's just going w/the flow. So finally trying to compete against him, i quit looking at him and just added resistance when i knew i could. Spinning makes you wanna look at your neighbor to see if you can out do them no matter their age. So i figured out don't judge a book by it's cover. Obviously this old man has been spinning for years and years, i just took up week ago. It's a totally different type of cardio than running, which is what i'm used to. During the class for a few minutes i literally couldn't feel my legs moving anymore, wanted to go faster, my legs were burning. When the class first started i would catch myself looking back at the clock counting down when the time was over, but as the class got going i started enjoying a lot better. The teacher will have music going, and she'll cue us on how to spin by when to change the resistance up or down or to spin fast or slow. When changing the resistance you change it to where it's tougher for you. You can't really have a universal setting for everyone to follow, because everyone has so many different fitness levels. But as time goes us, you should be able to go w/out fatiguing as much, and adding more resistance each time.
