Dad's trip: Part 2

On Saturday dad i went to Colossal Cave Park. It's like any traditional type of park w/all the park stuff to do. But we mainly just wanted to do the Cave part. This cave was about 20 minutes outside of Tucson. It's we we call back home "in the sticks." It was neat to go to. It was lot neater than Robber's cave back home. Most caves are formed by shallow cool rainwater percolated down, but caves in the western U.S. were created by upwelling of deep hot sulfur-laden brine. The said the cave used to have lots of water in it. Also, it's one of the caves you can see a fault line, due to an earthquake that happened years ago.The tour was about 45minutes long w/ lots of winding up, down, around by going down at least 100 steps. Colossal Cave is estimated to be at least 12-20 million years old. Because the cave is dry and dormant right now, the cave always stays perfect 70degrees. This cave is also a home or way station to almost half of the bat species from Arizona. We didn't see any bats, the tourist said they had all flown out for the season. Even though we couldn't see any, we could sure smell them. When you first walk in the cave, there was an awful awful smell. Come to find out that was bat poop, ewww!! Through out history the cave was used by local native Indians train robbers. The cave was later discovered in the 1880s.
